Looking after yourself

As a health professional it is important that you also look after your own health. There are times when helping and supporting someone else can impact on your own health and wellbeing. If this happens, there are support options available for you too.

If you would like to chat to someone call our confidential support line 24/7 on 1800 667 877.

Self-care strategies

Make time for you

You might want to set aside a few minutes or hours each day to do something that makes you feel good and relaxed.

Don’t double book yourself

If someone wants you to see them or do something for them during your self-care time, tell them you are busy. That’s because you are busy – looking after yourself!

Learn to switch off

This can be hard, but self-care is the time where you focus only on you. If it’s hard for you, try doing something that diverts your attention, like solving a puzzle or reading a book.

Learn some quick fixes

If you are frazzled and short on time, learn some strategies that can be done in a few minutes. Breathing exercises and stretching are great as they can be done in a few minutes, practically anywhere.

Healthy living matters

Be mindful that you are getting adequate sleep, physical activity, eating a well-balanced diet and keeping a check on your own physical and emotional health requirements.
